Klobuchar Recognized by the Plant Based Products Council as Bioeconomy Champion

Senator Klobuchar receiving the Bioeconomy Champion Award from Plant Based Products Council Executive Director James Glueck. WASHINGTON - U.S. Senator Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) was recognized by the Plant Based Products Council with the Bioeconomy Champion Award, recognizing her longtime support for the bioeconomy. The Plant Based Products Council (PBPC) represents bioplastic companies using renewable feedstocks, consumer facing brands, and corn and soybean growers. "It's an honor to receive this award alongside my colleague Senator Ernst. We've worked together to grow biobased products and the bioeconomy," Klobuchar said. "Investing in homegrown bioproducts can create new markets for farmers, grow manufacturing jobs, and reduce our reliance on foreign oil, which is why the work of the plant-based products industry is so important. That's why I'm focused on making bioproducts the expectation, not the exception, across the country." Klobuchar leads two bills to support plant-based product innovation. The Biomanufacturing and Jobs Act of 2025 enhances the Department of Agriculture's (USDA) ability to promote the growing range of plant-based bioproducts with the voluntary BioPreferred label and government procurement of biobased products. The Agricultural Biorefinery Innovation and Opportunity (Ag BIO) Act updates USDA's Biorefinery, Renewable Chemical, and Biobased Products Manufacturing Assistance Program to administer grants and guaranteed loans for the development of advanced biofuel, renewable chemical, and biobased products processing facilities. ###
