Congressional Record, Volume 172 Issue 67 (Thursday, April 16, 2026) [Congressional Record Volume 172, Number 67 (Thursday, April 16, 2026)] [House] [Page H2929] From the Congressional Record Online through the Government Publishing Office [ www.gpo.gov ] CONDEMNING TRUMP'S ATTACKS ON POPE LEO XIV (Mr. KENNEDY of New York asked and was given permission to address the House for 1 minute and to revise and extend his remarks.) Mr. KENNEDY of New York. Mr. Speaker, I rise today on behalf of Catholics and all people of faith who are appalled by President Trump's recent attacks on Pope Leo. At a moment that demands moral clarity, His Holiness called on the President to remember what the Gospel teaches us: to pray for peace and for the dignity of all people. How did he respond? With insults, egotism, and images portraying himself as Jesus. It is blasphemous, deranged, and a total desecration of Christ's message. Sadly, we have come to expect these sorts of temper tantrums and outbursts from Donald Trump. This entire episode, coupled with his threat last week to wipe out an entire civilization, calls into question his mental fitness for office. His own former White House advisers, military generals, and even his staunchest supporters have called him insane. The Vice President and Cabinet must begin the process of invoking the 25th Amendment to remove the President from office. If they fail to act, this House must immediately begin impeachment proceedings. We must act now before he does any more damage to our Nation and the world. The SPEAKER pro tempore (Mr. Wittman). Members are reminded to refrain from engaging in personalities toward the President. ____________________
