Rep. Becca Balint Statement on Supreme Court Ruling Blocking Trump Tariff Regime

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Representative Becca Balint (VT-AL) released the following statement after the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that President Trump does not have the authority to impose broad tariffs under the emergency act he has cited: “Today's ruling was a major victory in defending Congress's power of the purse and reining in a President who has abused his power. As Vermonters, our tourism industry, small businesses, and border communities are deeply connected with our Canadian neighbors, and the impact of these tariffs has been severe. The chaos and instability - and the administration's harmful rhetoric - have hurt our small businesses, raised costs for working people, and caused our nation reputational harm." “Targeted, strategic tariffs can strengthen American industries or bring good jobs home, but President Trump’s tariff regime was neither strategic nor predictable. Our families and businesses deserve smart, steady economic leadership, not economic whiplash." ###
