MALDEN, MA - Today, Democratic Whip Katherine Clark (MA-5) announced Christina Xiao, a Lexington high school student, as this year's Congressional Art Competition winner from Massachusetts' Fifth Congressional District. "The skill and creativity of our district's young artists never cease to amaze me," said Whip Clark. "Christina's winning submission masterfully embodies the core strength and beauty of our nation - its diversity of culture, of thought, and of experience. I'm incredibly proud of Christina and look forward to displaying her work in the Capitol for all to see." Xiao's piece, entitled "A Nation in Windows," depicts a building composed of the American flag, with 16 windows representing diverse communities across the United States. Xiao was honored at a private ceremony at the Woburn Public Library last month. She will be recognized at an annual awards ceremony in Washington, D.C., where her art will be displayed for one year in the U.S. Capitol's Cannon Tunnel, alongside winners from other Congressional districts. Each spring, the Congressional Institute sponsors a nationwide high school visual art competition to recognize and encourage young artistic talent across the country.
