FIRE Act

Fire Improvement and Reforming Exceptional Events Act or the FIRE Act This bill modifies the definition of exceptional events under the Clean Air Act and requires the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to revise its regulations regarding exceptional events or actions to mitigate wildfire risk. Generally, the EPA must exclude data from use in determinations of exceedances and violations of national ambient air quality standards (NAAQS) if a state demonstrates that an exceptional event caused a specific air pollution concentration. The bill provides that events caused by human activity that are intended to mirror the occurrence or reoccurrence of a natural event are exceptional events. Additionally, the bill no longer excludes from consideration as an exceptional event (1) meteorological events involving high temperatures or a lack of precipitation, or (2) stagnation of air masses that does not ordinarily occur. The bill requires the EPA to revise regulations regarding the reviewing and handling of air quality monitoring data influenced by actions to mitigate wildfire risk. The bill also requires the EPA to conduct regional modeling and analysis when multiple states submit petitions regarding the same exceptional event or action to mitigate wildfire risk.

Expediting Federal Broadband Deployment Reviews Act

Expediting Federal Broadband Deployment Reviews Act This bill establishes an interagency strike force to support federal land management agencies' review of requests for communications use authorizations. (A communications use authorization is required to modify or locate communications facilities on public lands.) The strike force must (1) conduct periodic calls with strike force members to ensure that each agency prioritizes the review of requests for communications use authorizations, (2) establish goals for the review of the requests, and (3) monitor and facilitate agency accountability for meeting the established goals. The bill specifies that the strike force must include the head of the National Telecommunications and Information Administration, the head of each federal land management agency, and other members designated by the Department of Agriculture and the Department of the Interior. The bill also requires the strike force to report to Congress regarding its effectiveness.

Veterans Burial Allowance and Reimbursement Act of 2026

This bill would increase the amount of money the Department of Veterans Affairs provides to help cover burial and funeral costs for deceased veterans and their eligible family members. The legislation aims to ensure that veterans receive more financial support for final expenses, which currently may not fully cover the costs of a funeral service. The change would affect veterans' families who are responsible for arranging burials and may struggle with the expense.

The legislation would affect law enforcement agencies, pharmaceutical companies, and potentially individuals involved in illegal drug operations. The bill has been referred to committees that handle criminal justice and drug regulation to determine which parts fall under their respective areas of responsibility.

State Planning for Reliability and Affordability Act

State Planning for Reliability and Affordability Act This bill requires certain state authorities that regulate electric utilities to consider the establishment of measures regarding the reliable availability of electricity over specified time periods. These requirements would apply to electric utilities that use integrated resource plans—plans that project future electricity use to ensure resource adequacy, as opposed to utilities that rely on capacity markets, which use price trends for resource planning. Specifically, the state authorities must consider requiring the integrated resource plans of electric utilities to include measures to ensure the reliable availability of electric energy over a 10-year period to maintain the operation of reliable generation facilities or the procurement of electric energy from reliable generation facilities. The bill defines reliable generation facilities as facilities that enable the generation of electric energy on a continuous basis over a period of not fewer than 30 days; have adequate fuel or a continuously available energy source on-site to enable the continuous generation of electric energy for at least 30 days, or have contractual obligations that achieve the same; have operational characteristics to enable the generation of electric energy during emergency and severe weather conditions; and provide services such as frequency support and voltage support.

No Fentanyl on Social Media Act

This bill would require social media companies to take stronger steps to prevent drug dealers from using their platforms to sell fentanyl and other dangerous drugs, including removing illegal drug sales content and reporting suspicious activity to law enforcement. The legislation aims to crack down on how criminals exploit social media to distribute fentanyl, which has become a major driver of overdose deaths across the country. Social media platforms would face pressure to implement better detection tools and policies to keep illegal drug trafficking off their services.
