MethodologyFarm Disaster Tax Cut Act
Farmers who receive insurance payments when their crops are damaged or destroyed would no longer have to count those payments as income for tax purposes. This would reduce the tax burden on agricultural operations that experience crop losses due to weather, disease, or other covered events. The change would primarily benefit farmers and ranchers who carry crop insurance policies.
Servicemember Civilian Transition Support Act
The bill would create a new senior leadership position at the Department of Defense specifically focused on helping military members transition to civilian jobs or reserve service when they leave active duty. This official would oversee all programs and services designed to support this transition process, ensuring military personnel have consistent access to career counseling, job training, and other resources they need to successfully move into their next chapter. The change would affect active-duty service members, veterans, and reserve component personnel preparing to leave the military.
Land Grant Research Prioritization Act of 2026
Land Grant Research Prioritization Act of 2026 This bill includes additional priorities as Department of Agriculture (USDA) high-priority research and extension areas. Under the bill, USDA may award grants for developing and evaluating (1) technologies to mechanize agricultural processes (and may emphasize processes for harvesting specialty crops), and (2) agricultural uses of artificial intelligence (and may emphasize uses for improving specialty crop production). Further, USDA may award grants to support research projects at land-grant colleges and universities to develop and apply methods to manage and eradicate invasive species of plants and animals, including through methods of biocontrol; and aquaculture methods, including through the propagation and rearing of economically and ecologically valuable aquatic and marine species.
Ralph David Abernathy, Sr., National Historic Site Act
This bill would establish a new national historic site dedicated to Ralph David Abernathy Sr., a prominent civil rights leader and close associate of Martin Luther King Jr., allowing the federal government to preserve and manage a location related to his life and legacy. The site would be maintained by the National Park Service and made available to the public for education and historical commemoration. This affects how the government uses public lands and resources to honor important figures in American history.
Ocmulgee Mounds National Park and Preserve Establishment Act
This bill would establish the Ocmulgee Mounds area in Georgia as a national park and preserve, protecting the ancient Native American ceremonial mounds and surrounding lands from development. The designation would allow the National Park Service to manage the site for public education and recreation while preserving its historical and archaeological significance for future generations. Local communities, tourists, and Native American tribes with historical ties to the area would be the primary groups affected by this change in land management.
Ban Congressional Stock Trading Act
This bill would prohibit members of Congress from buying and selling individual stocks while they serve in office, aiming to prevent lawmakers from using insider information gained through their government work to make profitable trades. The restriction would apply to both the members themselves and their immediate family members, and would require them to divest existing stock holdings or place them in blind trusts where they cannot see or control the investments. The goal is to reduce conflicts of interest and increase public trust that members of Congress are making decisions based on what's best for their constituents rather than their personal financial gain.
Rural Veterans Transportation to Care Act
Rural Veterans Transportation to Care Act This bill expands and makes permanent the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) grant program that provides transportation options to veterans for medical purposes. First, the bill expands the program to cover transportation for veterans in rural areas, in addition to veterans in highly rural areas (who are already eligible under the program). The bill also authorizes the VA to award such grants to county veterans service organizations and tribal organizations to assist veterans with transportation for medical care. Further, the bill increases the maximum grant amount to $60,000. However, if a grant recipient is required to purchase a vehicle to comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990, such grant amount may be increased to not more than $80,000. Finally, the bill defines rural and highly rural in the same manner as the terms are given under the Rural-Urban Commuting Areas (RUCA) coding system of the Department of Agriculture. RUCA uses population density and commuting patterns to assign designations.
Improving SCRA Benefit Utilization Act of 2025
This bill aims to make it easier for active-duty military members to use benefits under the Servicemembers Civil Relief Act (SCRA), a federal law that provides financial protections like lower interest rates on debts and eviction protections. The legislation likely streamlines how service members access these protections or improves how lenders and creditors inform them about available benefits. The changes would help military families better understand and take advantage of financial safeguards designed to protect them during active service.
Forest Data Modernization Act of 2025
This bill would update how the federal government collects, manages, and shares information about forests on public lands, likely using newer technology and data systems to improve tracking of forest conditions, health, and resources. The changes would affect forest managers, researchers, and the public by making forest data more accessible and easier to use for planning conservation efforts, managing wildfires, and making decisions about land use. Timber companies, environmental groups, and state forestry agencies would also benefit from having better information about forest conditions across the country.
Supporting Victims of Human Trafficking Act
Supporting Victims of Human Trafficking Act This bill increases the percentage of the total allocation made available for trafficking victim services grants that may be set aside for research and for training and technical assistance. Specifically, the bill increases from 3% to 7% the amount that may be set aside for research, evaluation, and statistics; and increases from 5% to 10% the amount that may be set aside for training and technical assistance. Further, the bill allows the amount set aside for training and technical assistance to be used for strengthening program administration and budgeting. The bill also increases from 75% to 95% the federal share of project costs.
