SJRES172In Committee

A joint resolution to direct the removal of United States Armed Forces from hostilities within or against the Islamic Republic of Iran that have not been authorized by Congress.

This joint resolution directs the President to remove U.S. Armed Forces from hostilities within or against Iran unless a declaration of war or authorization to use military force for such purpose has been enacted. The resolution specifies that it shall not be construed to prevent the United States from defending against an attack on the United States or its personnel or facilities in other nations.

SJRES140In Committee

A joint resolution providing for congressional disapproval under chapter 8 of title 5, United States Code, of the rule submitted by the Bureau of Consumer Financial Protection relating to the withdrawal of the rule relating to "Fair Credit Reporting; Name-Only Matching Procedures".

Congress is attempting to block a decision by the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau that would undo protections requiring credit reporting companies to use more careful procedures when matching people's names to their credit files, which could prevent innocent people from being wrongly denied loans or credit. If approved, this resolution would force the agency to keep the original rule in place that requires stricter name-matching standards. The measure affects credit reporting agencies, lenders, and consumers who rely on accurate credit reporting.

SJRES141In Committee

A joint resolution providing for congressional disapproval under chapter 8 of title 5, United States Code, of the rule submitted by Bureau of Consumer Financial Protection relating to the withdrawal of the rule relating to "Debt Collection Practices (Regulation F); Deceptive and Unfair Collection of Medical Debt".

Congress is considering blocking a decision by the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau to withdraw its protections against deceptive debt collection practices for medical bills. If approved, this resolution would force the agency to keep its rules in place that limit how aggressive debt collectors can be when pursuing people for unpaid medical debts. This affects millions of Americans who struggle with medical debt and the debt collection companies that pursue them.

Kira Johnson Act

I don't have enough information to write an accurate summary. The bill title "Kira Johnson Act" doesn't indicate what policy it addresses, and the subjects listed only say "Health" without specifying the particular health issue. To provide a meaningful summary of what this bill would actually do and who it affects, I would need access to the bill's text or more detailed information about its provisions.

HBCU Research Capacity Act

This bill would provide funding and support to help historically Black colleges and universities (HBCUs) expand their research programs and facilities. The money would allow these institutions to hire more researchers, purchase equipment, and conduct scientific studies in areas like health, engineering, and other fields. This aims to increase the research output from HBCUs and create more opportunities for students and faculty at these schools to participate in cutting-edge research.

HEADWAY Act

Head start Education And Development Workforce Advancement and Yield Act or the HEADWAY Act This bill allows some teachers in Early Head Start programs to teach while in the process of earning their Child Development Associate (CDA) credential and completing training. Currently, the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) must ensure that all teachers providing direct services to children and families in Early Head Start centers (1) have a minimum of a CDA credential and have been trained in early childhood development, and (2) have been trained in early childhood development with a focus on infant and toddler development. The bill revises this requirement by requiring at least one teacher per classroom (instead of all teachers) to have a CDA credential and training. In particular, the bill requires HHS to ensure that (1) each additional teacher providing direct services to children and families is in the process of earning a CDA credential and completing training, and (2) the Early Head Start agency provides a mentor to oversee the progress and guide the work of a teacher who is in the process of earning a CDA credential and completing training.

Student Loan Marriage Penalty Elimination Act of 2026

This bill would change how married couples's student loan debt is treated for tax purposes, removing financial penalties that some married couples face when filing their taxes together. Currently, certain income-driven repayment plans and tax deductions for student loan interest can disadvantage married filers compared to single filers, and this legislation aims to eliminate those disparities. The change would primarily benefit married couples with student loan debt who file joint tax returns.

The proposal would expand federal support and resources for fathers' health and wellness programs, including mental health services, parenting education, and family support initiatives. The bill would affect fathers, families, healthcare providers, and potentially employers offering health benefits.

BARK Act of 2025

The BARK Act would likely establish new regulations or protections related to agricultural products or food safety, though the specific details aren't clear from the title alone. Based on its referral to the Judiciary Committee, it may address legal frameworks affecting farmers, food producers, or consumers in ways that require changes to existing law. The bill is still in early stages and hasn't yet been debated or detailed in committee.

Disaster Related Extension of Deadlines Act

Disaster Related Extension of Deadlines Act This bill requires the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) to treat the postponement of the federal tax return deadline due to a federally declared disaster or certain other events as an extension of such deadline for purposes of calculating the limit on a tax refund. The bill also provides that the IRS’s deadline for sending certain notices includes such postponement. Under current law, a tax refund claim must be filed within three years of the date that the federal tax return is filed. (Some exceptions apply.) The tax refund amount generally is limited to federal taxes paid within the three years preceding the tax refund claim plus any extension of the federal tax return deadline (lookback period). The postponement of the federal tax return deadline is not an extension for purposes of the lookback period. (Thus, certain tax payments made before the federal tax return is filed may be excluded from the lookback period.) Under the bill, a federal tax return deadline postponed due to a federally declared disaster or certain other events must be treated as an extension of such deadline for purposes of the lookback period. Under current law, the IRS is required to mail a notice and demand for tax payment within 60 days of an assessment but not before the tax payment due date. The bill provides that the tax payment due date includes the postponement of the tax payment deadline due to a federally declared disaster or certain other events.
